Thank you so much for electing me to be the new MP for Brent Central. It is a huge honour and privilege to represent local people in parliament.

Whether or not you voted for me, I am your MP and I am here to help when you need me. My constituency office will soon be open again five days a week and I will hold regular advice surgeries across the whole of Brent Central.

Brent is a wonderful place to live and work and I will do my very best to stand up and fight for local people in parliament.

Sarah Teather, Lib Dem MP for Brent Central, has urged local residents to make sure they are ready for Digital Switchover. Television viewers in Brent will switch to digital television on 4 April 2012, after which date analogue services will be turned off.

There is help available for people who are unsure about what steps they need to take in the lead up to the switchover. Many people won't need any new equipment, but if residents currently only receive BBC 1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, then it is likely they will need to upgrade.

"I would like to wish everybody a very merry Christmas. I know that many people will have had very a busy year and it's always great to be able to take some time to relax over the festive period.

For me personally Christmas is a religious festival, but regardless of whether you celebrate it in that way or not Christmas is an occasion for spending time with your family and friends and recharging your batteries.

But while most of us are celebrating, for some people Christmas is a time of heightened loneliness. I would urge people to look in on elderly neighbours and those who may be spending the holiday season on their own. Christmas is a period for reaching out and renewing or making new connections with our friends and our neighbours. There is something in the spirit of the generosity of Christmas which should touch everybody's lives whether you are a believer or not.

I wish you all a peaceful, healthy and joyous Christmas and very happy New Year."
