Sarah Teather MP is welcomed to the House of Commons by Charles Kennedy
Following her stunning victory in the Brent East by-election, Sarah Teather, the newly elected MP, has been continuing the pace she set during the election campaign. Even before she has taken her seat in the House of Commons, she has met six of her election pledges.
Sarah Teather MP said:
"During the election campaign I pledged that I would be a local MP, a fulltime MP and an accessible MP. For me it is a matter of trust that I should deliver on my pledges as soon as possible. Liberal Democrats make election promises they intend to keep."
Six pledges met by Sarah Teather MP:
1) Resigned her post as an Islington Councillor.
2) Resigned from her job as a Policy Analyst with Macmillan Cancer Relief.
3) Moved house to live in the Brent East constituency.
4) Found a Constituency office in Brent East.
5) Set up six advice surgeries a month - more than either of the two Brent Labour MPs.
6) Continued her campaign to 'Clean Up Brent' by meeting Brent Council Chief Executive, Gareth Daniel, to discuss residents' concerns.
Sarah Teather MP said:
"I felt that it was a priority to clear as many responsibilities that lie outside Brent East as possible so that I could get on with job without distraction. I wanted to be able to hit the ground running as soon as I took my seat on Tuesday 14 October."
