Sarah Teather MP has raised the plight of the APDA in the House of Commons
Sarah Teather MP has today raised the plight of the Asian People with Disabilities Alliance (APDA) in the House of Commons. The local Liberal Democrat MP has tabled a Commons motion calling for a resolution of the dispute which threatens to leave the APDA homeless unless an alternative can be found.
The Brent East MP's Commons motion has been supported by Lib Dem London Mayoral Candidate Simon Hughes and has also been backed by all the London Liberal Democrat MP's. The Commons motion calls for North West Hospitals Trust and Brent Council to resolve a situation which, could see the APDA forced to move from its home at the Central Middlesex Hospital in March. So far no alternative accommodation has been found that it is suitable to meet the needs of the APDA.
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"This situation has to be resolved quickly, we cannot allow a charity such as APDA to be homeless. The organisation has done so much in its care for local disabled people. APDA has developed a disabled centre noted for its excellence, it is a great pity that it faces eviction. If alternative accommodation has to be found it must be found quickly, but above all it must be suitable to cater for the needs of local disabled people.
"It will be a great loss to the community in Brent if we lose APDA because of this tenancy dispute. The work done by the organisation was only last month recognized by the Princess Royal at an open day at the centre."
