Sarah has raised the issue of Brent's Post Offices in the House of Commons

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has tabled a Commons motion backed by Lib Dem Mayoral Candidate Simon Hughes MP on the closure of Brent's Post Offices. The Brent East MP has been campaigning hard against the proposed closure of seven Post Offices in Brent.

Local people are now awaiting the decision of the Post Office Ltd after the consultation period on the closures finished this Tuesday. Brent East MP Sarah Teather wrote to the Post Office objecting to the closures and included the views of Brent residents who are strongly opposed to the closures.

Last week local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather was accompanied by Liberal Democrat Councillors Havard Hughes and James Allie in presenting a petition with over 1,000 signatures to Tony Blair in 10 Downing Street.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"The Post Office and the Government must listen to the people of Brent. Local people do not want their local Post Offices to close. These closures will affect those most vulnerable in Brent; the elderly and the disabled the most.

"I find it appalling that the Labour Government is spending taxpayers money on ensuring that they close a third of our Post Offices. Millions of pounds of our money is being used to bring about Post office closures that local people don't want to happen."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
