Sarah Teather, Simon Hughes and Sarah Ludford MEP are opposing the Post Office closures in Brent
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today called queues at Brent Post Offices completely unacceptable. The Brent East MP is writing to both the Post Office and Secretary of State for Trade and Industry with photographic evidence of the queues at local Post Offices. With the announcement of the recent Post Office closures in Brent, local residents are set to face lengthier queues.
Sarah Teather MP had previously handed in a petition to Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street with over 1,000 signatures from Brent residents opposed to the closure scheme. The Liberal Democrat MP has also tabled a Commons motion condemning the proposed closure of seven of Brent's Post Offices.
Local residents can sign a petition against Post Office closures online at http://www.brentlibdems.org.uk/petitions.php
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"As a resident of Kilburn, I have seen for myself the horrendous queues at Brondesbury Villas Post Office. This is all because of the closure of Brondesbury Post Office last year. It seems obvious that when you close a Post Office the local customers have to go somewhere else. With more of our local Post Offices set to close under the Labour Government's closure programme, Brent residents face even longer queues.
"These Post Office closures are completely unacceptable. Do the Post Office and the Government really want to force pensioners and those who are disabled to queue outside a Post Office in the pouring rain? I shall be writing to both the Post Office and the Government Minister responsible to express my anger at this sorry state of affairs."
