Sarah welcomes affordable housing for key workers in Brent

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today opened Erin Court, Walm Lane developed by Sutherland Housing Association. Erin Court provides housing for key workers from Brent specifically education and NHS workers.

The housing block is a virtual car-free zone with only 6 car-parking spaces. Consequently, a car sharing club has been set up, thought to be the first in Brent.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"I welcome this development, there is a real need to attract more key sector workers to Brent. When I visit schools and hospitals in Brent, recruiting new staff is always brought up as a problem.

"House prices in Brent increased last year more than any other London borough. It is increasingly difficult for new health and education workers to start their careers in Brent as house prices increase.

"The impact of tuition and top-up fees will have severe consequences in the future in attracting new key workers to Brent."

said:

"I'm really impressed by this scheme and I hope we see it developed in other parts of Brent. Schemes that are kind to the environment and reduce traffic congestion can only be welcomed."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
