'FANCY A SWIFT HALF?' NOT IN BRENT - TEATHER

Fewer than one in five of Brent's licensed premises have re-applied for a license to serve alcohol. They have less than two weeks to submit applications before the 6th August deadline. Licensees face up to six months in jail or a fine of up to £20,000 if they do not have a license after 24th November.

In Brent only 142 licensees have re-applied for a licence a total of 18% of all licensed premises in Brent. Brent has the fourth lowest take up rate of London's 33 boroughs.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"The tragedy is that properly managed, more flexible licensing hours could help reduce the problems caused by binge drinking and alcohol-related violence. But the Government's approach has been mismanaged from start to finish.

"Ministers should urgently consider delaying the implementation of these plans to allow police and Local Authorities more time to prepare.

"Does the Government really want to be responsible for hundred of pubs, clubs and restaurants having to close because they do not have a licence?"

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
