Liberal Democrat Councillors James Allie and Daniel Brown visited residents on the Abbey Estate in Alperton on Tuesday evening to discuss the problems caused by their emergency evacuation following a major fire in a car workshop at 1a Carlyon Road Alperton.

The two Councillors received permission to get through the police security cordon 24 hours after the major fire forced the evacuation of residents living next to the fire incident site. Residents were eventually allowed to go back home after the fire site was made safe and after an asbestos clear up operation.

The Alperton Liberal Democrat Councillors have called for safety inspection of the many car workshops in the Alperton area including:

  • Carlyon Close
  • Mount Pleasant
  • Ealing Road
  • Woodside Avenue area

They want to ensure that all the workshops have planning permission for their activities and satisfy all the necessary health & safety requirements.

"Many of these workshops operate long hours and are in the middle of residential areas. We want to ensure that they are all inspected to ensure that all necessary health & safety requirements are in place" says Councillor James Allie.

The Liberal Democrat Councillors have in the recent past expressed concerns about the problems of some of the workshops cause to local people - especially by leaving many of their cars in residential streets and often working on them in the open.

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
