BRENT IN 'RUNNING' FOR OLYMPIC TORCH ROUTE - TEATHER

October 10, 2005 7:53 PM

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today received a letter from Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic team confirming that Brent is in the 'running' to have the Olympic Torch pass through the Borough.

The Brent East MP wrote to both Lord Coe and Jacques Rogge, President of IOC after London had been awarded the 2012 Olympics asking whether the Olympic Torch could pass through Brent.

Lord Coe's letter states that whilst no decision has yet been made on the final Olympic Torch route, the organizers will certainly bear Brent in mind when the final decision is made.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"I feel it is only right and proper that the Olympic Torch comes through Brent in 2012. As one of London's most ethnically diverse borough's, Brent is a true celebration of London's multi-culturalism.

"With Brent also having the new Wembley Stadium up and running by 2012, we will once again be a centre of sporting legend."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
