BRENT LABOUR COUNCIL 'CANCELS' NAVRATRI - TEATHER

October 10, 2005 9:29 PM
Brent East MP, Sarah Teather

Sarah Teather MP

Local Liberal Democrat Sarah Teather MP has received complaints from Brent's Hindu community following the news that Brent Council have unexpectedly doubled the cost of hiring the Paul Daisley Hall in Brent Town Hall. The unexpected rise announced just five days before the festivities has led to the event being cancelled.

The Brent East MP has today written to Brent Council's Chief Executive, Gareth Daniel to demand an explanation.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"This seems an appalling piece of timing from the council. Their decision to hike up the hire prices of the Town Hall has now led to an important cultural event being cancelled.

"The Council must accept that they are dealing with community organizations who cannot afford these fees and not big corporate businesses.

"I hope the Council will consider the cultural impact its decision has had and reconsider its price-structuring for community groups."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
