Holocaust represents the very worst and best of humanity - Teather
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather visited Auschwitz on Tuesday alongside school children from all over the country, in a trip organised by the Holocaust Education Trust.
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"The trip had a profound effect on me and I think it will take some time for me to reflect fully on all that I saw. At Auschwitz we come face-to-face with the unimaginable evil that we are capable of, as well as the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
"It is all too easy to compartmentalise the Holocaust as a one-off act of evil that could never happen again. The sad truth is that genocide has happened since and will probably happen again, unless we are prepared to revisit these painful scars on our history and truly learn the lessons.
"There will come a time when the last remaining Holocaust survivors can no longer tell their story. It is vital that we continue to teach future generations about what happened. I would urge all who can go to Auschwitz to visit."
