Brent East MP Sarah Teather visited Church End market on Saturday to speak to traders and customers about its threatened closure. The Liberal Democrat MP is backing the campaign organised by the 'Willesden & Brent Times' to save the market.
Sarah Teather MP has today written to both Brent Council and Fortunegate Housing in a bid to secure the future of the market. The local MP has written to Brent Council asking about alternative sites for the market and to Fortunegate asking them whether the market can remain in its location until they start building on the site.
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"The market is such a vibrant place and a hub of the local community it would be a massive blow to lose it.
"Not only will traders lose their livelihoods but Brent will lose a part of its history. It will be a sad day if over twenty years of trading has to cease. The Council must recognise the value that the market brings to the local area and do all it can to preserve it.
"Congratulations must go to the Willesden & Brent Times for launching this campaign, they have my full support."
