POST OFFICE MUST LISTEN TO LOCAL PEOPLE - SNEDDON

June 5, 2006 3:52 PM

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Gavin Sneddon has again written to Post Office Ltd and Postwatch protesting about the level of consultation over the future of Willesden Green Post Office.

In his letter to both bodies Councillor Sneddon states that local residents have not been given sufficient information to make the consultation exercise meaningful.

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Willesden Green ward Gavin Sneddon said:

"The Post Office have told us the proposed opening hours, but not the proposed staffing levels. We know how many serving positions there will be but not how often staff will be behind them.

"Ludicrously the Post Office is suggesting that the Post Office will be financially viable because it will be able to expand the range of stationery it sells. This is despite the fact it is right next to Tanna's a highly established local stationers on the High Road. If the business side of the new Post Office doesn't take off then postal services will inevitably suffer.

"The views of local people are clear - we need our Post Office. Young and old are united behind the campaign to protect Postal services here in Willesden Green."

Councillor Sneddon and Councillor Anwar have also submitted a petition with over 300 signatures on collected by Liberal Democrat campaigners to the Post Office Ltd.
