Today on World Environment Day Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather is encouraging her constituents to join her in making a small promise which will make a big difference to the planet.
The Environment Agency is asking everyone to "promise the earth" by making one of ten pledges to save our environment.
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"The future of our planet is one of the most important issues facing all of us today. Our actions now will help shape the environment that our children grow up in. The most important thing you can do on World Environment Day is participate.
"Even a small step like taking showers instead of a bath can make a big difference to preserving precious water reserves.
"I would urge all local residents to do their bit. The message of World Environment Day is simple if we all play our part we can take great steps towards securing a greener and cleaner planet for future generations.
"One of the promises I've made is to turn off the tap every morning and night while brushing my teeth. While this may seem like a pretty small thing, if enough people do it we can save tremendous amounts of water. If all 4000 people in the UK who've made the same promise keep it up for a year, we can save almost 9 million litres of water!"
