Sarah Teather talks to teachers at John Kelly Girls School
Lib Dem MP for Brent East, Sarah Teather, went back to school this week, joining pupils and teachers in Brent classrooms.
The local MP, who is also the Liberal Democrats Spokesperson on Education, was welcomed into John Kelly Girls School in Dollis Hill and Manor Primary School for special educational needs in Kensal Rise.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, Sarah Teather, said:
"When I was first appointed Lib Dem education spokesperson, I strongly felt that I wanted to spend some time in a school to experience first hand what education is like for teachers and young people.
"It has been nearly 20 years since I sat in a comprehensive school as a student, and while you can glean much from talking to teachers, parents, students and governors, there's nothing quite like experiencing it.
"It has been a real privilege to spend time with local students and teachers. I saw some excellent teaching this week and met many hard working young people."
The energetic local MP has been working with John Kelly school for three years to campaign for new buildings. Sarah said:
"Spending time at John Kelly really drove the point home to me that this school badly needs new buildings. It is time the Government came up with the funds so that young people have somewhere decent to learn."
She also said:
"The work at Manor primary school is truly inspirational. It was a very memorable day."
