Environment Agency Inaction A Disgrace - Teather

Sarah Teather has campaigned alongside local people to stamp down on pollution

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, Sarah Teather, has condemned the Environment Agency for failing to take action against contractors at Neasden Goods Yard, and called on residents to join her in the fight against illegal operators.

Alloyde II recently lost a legal appeal against the Council's revocation of their license. Yet BBC London and local residents continue to allege that the firm are continuing to operate at the Neasden Lane site, which is consistently rated the most polluted in London.

Sarah Teather, who has been a leading campaigner on the issue and spoke on behalf of local people at the appeal hearing, has demanded urgent intervention from the Environment Agency to properly enforce the ruling.

Sarah is now urging local people to call the Agency's hotline on 0800 807060 to report contractors when they breach regulations.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Neasden Lane has been declared the dirtiest street in London and residents are living through a complete nightmare. It is an utter disgrace that, despite securing a legal ruling against Alloyde, the Environment Agency refuse to take any kind of enforcement action.

"Alloyde have shown utter contempt for local people. I share Neasden residents' anger that the Environment Agency will stand back and allow contractors to flout the rule of law in this manner.

"I have frequently made representations on behalf of residents, and have demanded an urgent meeting with Agency chiefs. I will personally take enforcement officers to the site to show them the damning effect their failure to act has had on our area.

"But now the whole community needs to speak up on the effect this chronic pollution is having on their lives. I strongly urge residents to call the Agency's hotline everytime they have a complaint. Together we can show the Environment Agency that enough is enough."
