Government Must Rule Out More Post Office Closures In Brent - Teather

Sarah Teather MP collects signatures against Post Office closures

Hundreds of local people have backed Sarah's campagin against Post Office closures

Local Liberal Democrat Brent MP Sarah Teather has expressed her frustration at the Government's refusal to publish their secret hit list of Post Offices being considered for closure.

Sarah used a parliamentary question to ask Ministers publish the full list of 2,500 Post Offices set to be closed. However, the Government have refused, leaving Brent residents facing more uncertainty over whether their local service will be axed.

A quarter of all the Post Offices in Brent have already been closed under Labour. If this trend continues there will be no Post Offices left in Brent by 2028.

Sarah is running a local petition against the Post Office closures.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Post offices are the bedrock of our communities. It is the most vulnerable and underprivileged in our society who use Post Offices the most, and it is essential that we preserve these services.

"In the last seven years we have lost a quarter of our Post Offices in Brent. I am astounded that Labour now plan to close a further 2,500 Post Offices.

"The response to my petition so far has been fantastic, and it is clear that many local people share my strong opposition to the Government's closure programme. I hope that many more people will add their names to the petition over the coming weeks and months.

"It's not acceptable for the Government to hide behind a veil of secrecy Ministers should immediately publish the list of Post Offices they are considering for closure. Local people have a right to know if their Post Office is at risk."
