Sarah Teather celebrated with her constituents
Brent's local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has joined her constituents in a festival to mark 60 years of Pakistan's independence.
The event, which was the first ever open air Pakistan Festival to be held in London, celebrated the country's independence and paid tribute to the contributions of British Pakistanis.
A parade featuring a pipe band from Pakistan, a British band of the Life Guards and floats depicting the colours of Pakistan culminated in a six hour cultural extravaganza at Trafalgar Square. Entertainments included pop, bhangra and folk music, while stalls offered traditional Pakistani cuisine and handicrafts.
Local MP Sarah was invited to join in the festivities by members of Brent's Pakistani Community Centre, which is based in Willesden Green.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"We have a large Pakistani community in Brent and I was delighted to be invited to mark 60 years of Pakistan's Independence.
"Events like this provide an important opportunity to remember the huge contribution Pakistani people have made to our borough.
"It was great to see people from all different backgrounds and walks of life coming together to celebrate London's rich and diverse history."
