Sarah Teather wants to make it easier for constituents to keep in touch
Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has joined Facebook so that people in Brent have yet another way to get in touch.
Recent research has shown that Liberal Democrat MPs use the popular social networking website more than their Labour or Conservative counterparts. 40% of Lib Dem MPs have Facebook pages, compared to just 13% of Labour MPs and 12% of Conservative MPs.
When Sarah was elected she was the youngest MP in the House of Commons, and has consistently championed new ways to get young people involved in politics. There are now many ways to contact Sarah: via telephone; email; post or by calling into her local office on Willesden High Road. Sarah also holds regular advice surgeries to meet constituents face to face.
Brent Councillors Daniel Brown (Alperton), Gavin Sneddon (Willesden Green) and Chris Leaman (Mapesbury) also have Facebook profiles.
Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"It's important to be accessible to all my constituents, and there are lots of ways for people to meet me face to face. I hold regular advice surgeries and my office in Willesden Green is open five days a week.
"Young people often have very strong opinions on local and national issues. Sites such as Facebook provide another way for me to hear their views. I can also use the site to tell young people about the work I am doing on their behalf.
"For lots of younger adults the internet is now the main way of keeping in touch. I hope that having a page on Facebook will encourage many more people to come forward with issues and campaigns they would like me to take up."
