Sarah's Commons Motion Urges "Back Brent"

Local MP Sarah Teather has voted for Brent

Brent's Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has tabled a commons motion congratulating Brent Mosque on reaching the final in the Islam Channel's "Model Mosque" competition.

The Model Mosque competition aims to find the UK's best mosque, and is judged by the contribution each mosque has made to their wider local community. The Mosque and Islamic Centre of Brent, on Howard Road in Cricklewood, will fight Bradford, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leighton, Croydon, Manchester and Haringey for the title.

Sarah is a regular visitor to Brent Mosque, and holds advice surgeries there for both Muslims and non-Muslims. Other services provided by the mosque include a police surgery, free immigration and medical advice, women's classes, teenagers' classes, computer and IT lessons, English lectures and a nursery.

To vote for Brent Mosque, text "Vote Brent" to 60060.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Mosques fulfill an important social function alongside their religious role. The Islam Channel's competition recognises the important contribution that mosques can make to their local area, and is a real opportunity for mosques to learn best practice from each other.

"I visit Brent Mosque frequently to run my advice surgery. The Mosque does a great job at reaching out to our diverse local community, and its services are used by Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

"It's great that Brent Mosque has come so far in this prestigious competition. I have already texted my vote, and hope that many more local people will now add their support. Our local mosque thoroughly deserves to win."
