Sarah Teather MP is campaigning to save local Post Offices

Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has condemned the £3million paid to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail in the year his company announced the closure of 2,500 Post Offices.

Over the last year, Adam Crozier has presided over the closure of 2,500 post offices, the first national strike for more than a decade and the universal stamp service losing money for the first time in history. But the company's annual report, revealed on Friday, shows that he still managed to scoop a massive pay package, becoming Britain's best-paid civil servant.

Sarah Teather has calculated that Mr. Crozier's full £3million annual package could have saved all the Post Offices in London, including the six set to be axed in Brent.

Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"To lavishly reward Royal Mail's boss after such a disastrous year shows a twisted set of priorities. We would be far better protecting Post Office branches relied on by thousands of people across the country.

"The Labour Government are steadily destroying the Post Office network. This obscene pay out adds insult to injury for those people in Brent set to loose their local Post Office."
