Sarah Teather has fought hard for better housing in Brent

Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather is to shadow Housing Minister Margaret Beckett in the House of Commons.

Sarah was appointed Liberal Democrat Housing Spokesman by Nick Clegg, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, as recognition for Sarah's tireless campaigning on housing issues for her constituents.

In June Sarah organised a Housing Conference in the House of Commons with local people and housing charities. She also helps many hundreds of people with housing problems every year in her constituency office in Willesden Green.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Every year hundreds of local people come to my constituency office to ask for help with their housing problems. I am absolutely delighted that I will now have a national platform to speak out for my constituents in Brent.

"The Labour Government has a shameful record on housing in Brent, with one in every ten children living in temporary accommodation, and hundreds of families living in unacceptable conditions.

"Across the country repossessions are on the up, while young people struggle to get on the housing ladder and are genuinely frightened about their future.

"I look forward to taking this fight straight to Margaret Beckett and the Labour Government."

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg MP said:

"I am delighted that Sarah has agreed to step up to the important role of Liberal Democrat Shadow Housing Minister.

"Sarah is exactly the right person to challenge this Government's lamentable record on providing affordable and social housing.

"Having worked so hard on housing issues for the people of Brent, I know that Sarah will bring the same determination and enthusiasm to the national stage."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
