Sarah Teather speaks out for local Brent patients
Brent's Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has learnt that an independent watchdog declared that both Brent NHS and the North West London Hospital Trust are failing to meet minimum standards of financial management.
Responding to a parliamentary question from Sarah, the Government admitted that Brent's health trusts were amongst just 7% in the country that failed to meet minimum standards for their use of resources. The reasons for failure were "a combination of inadequate financial standing and financial management arrangements".
The Audit Commission, which produced the report for the Government, has stated that "there is a link between the effective use of resources and high quality services for patients".
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"Brent NHS has a long history of poor financial management that has led to devastating cuts to services for vulnerable patients. Local people will be disappointed to hear that finance chiefs still haven't got their act together.
"It's a considerable relief that Brent NHS has finally managed to lift itself out of debt. However, until our health trusts learn to manage their resources properly Brent residents will have no confidence that more financial problem aren't just around the corner.
"People in Brent deserve an NHS that is well run and that gets the best possible use out of taxpayers' money. The Government must make sure Brent health bosses immediately draw up an action plan to improve."
