Local MP Sarah Teather has written to Mayor Johnson on behalf of her constituents

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has written to London Mayor Boris Johnson demanding that he reinstates money previously promised for Dollis Hill House in Gladstone Park.

Earlier this year Brent Council gave the go ahead for Training For Life to rebuild the former Regency villa and establish it as a social enterprise restaurant that would provide training opportunities for local people. But now Boris Johnson has abandoned the scheme other backers, the National Lottery Heritage fund and Training For Life, have also pulled out.

Sarah Teather and local Liberal Democrat Councillors have been working with the Dollis Hill House Trust to save the building, after the Labour Council said they would have it demolished.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Boris Johnson could not have done more to destroy Dollis Hill House if he had been personally driving the bulldozer.

"It took a real fight from local campaigners to find people willing to pay for the renovation project. But now that Boris has jumped ship the whole project is likely to sink.

"Dollis Hill House has stood in Gladstone Park for hundreds of years, yet Mayor Johnson is prepared to let it go to ruin. This is a short-term decision that shows a shocking disregard for the unique history and heritage of Brent.

"I have written to Boris Johnson on behalf of local campaigners asking him to rethink his devastating decision."
