Local MP Sarah Teather is campaigning to stop the Barnet Dump
Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather will speak at a public campaign meeting against Barnet Council's plans to build a rubbish plant on the border with Brent.
The Conservative run Council is proposing to relocate a large waste re-processing plant next door to a residential area on Edgware Road. If approved, the plans could see a large number of extra lorries passing by homes in the nearby Dollis Hill area every single day.
Many local residents are furiously opposed to Barnet Council's plans as they fear that the noise, dust and pollution from this new facility will not only be a constant irritation but be harmful to their health.
Sarah is encouraging local residents to attend a public meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday 11th December at John Kelly Boys College where she will speak up for their concerns.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"Huge numbers of local people have told me they oppose the plans for a dump on the Edgware Road and it is absolutely vital that they get a fair hearing from the Conservatives who run Barnet Council.
"Many people believe that Barnet Council's letters have been deliberately complicated and confusing. It is completely unacceptable that there has not been a proper consultation with residents to allow them to raise very genuine concerns.
"I hope that as many local residents will come to this meeting so that we can work together to force Barnet Council to think again."
