Sarah Teather is working hard for local people
New odds released by leading bookmakers Ladbrokes show that at the next election Brent Central will be a close fight between hardworking local MP Sarah Teather and Gordon Brown's Labour party. The Tories are already out of the race with odds of 100/1.
Conservative leader David Cameron has admitted that his party cannot win in Brent, having described the race for Brent Central as a "fight to the death" between Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
Only the Liberal Democrats in Brent can stand up to the unpopular policies of Gordon Brown and the Labour party, that has seen a raft of local closures including post offices, health centres and police stations, at the same time as ramping up income tax on the very poorest.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"Serving Brent as the local MP is an honour. I don't know when the next election will be called but, until then, I am getting on with my work for local residents and helping the many people who come to my office every single day.
"I have worked closely with local residents to campaign against post office and police station closures, to defend our local health services, and for tax cuts to help people though hard times. It's so important that we continue to fight to get the very best for Brent."
Brent Liberal Democrats Spokesperson Cllr Chris Leaman said:
"These odds only confirm what everyone knows: the Conservatives can't win in Brent Central. The next election will be a close fight between a tired Labour party and popular local MP Sarah Teather.
"Labour's Dawn Butler has shown that she will do whatever Gordon Brown tells her to do, even if that means ignoring the wishes of people in Brent. Anyone who wants an MP who will put Brent first and stand up to Gordon Brown and his disastrous policies should back Sarah Teather."
