Sarah Teather has condemned violence against the Brondesbury Synagogue
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has condemned the arson attack on the Brondesbury Synagogue, and called for Brent residents to remain united in their desire for peace in the Middle East.
Sarah, who has been a vigorous campaigner against prejudice towards minority groups in Brent, has written to Rabbi Levin expressing her shock and sympathy.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"I was deeply and profoundly saddened by the attack on the Brondesbury Synagogue. Brent is the most diverse borough in the whole country, and different religious and ethnic groups usually enjoy a relationship of mutual friendship and respect.
"The nature of Brent means that events abroad often have a direct personal impact on local residents, and it is right that we have a full and frank debate on policy in the Middle East. While that debate will often be both heartfelt and passionate, it is absolutely vital to avoid language which is anti-Semitic or Islamophobic, or which encourages such feelings in others.
"I condemn the attack on Brondesbury Synagogue, and send my sincere sympathies to Rabbi Levin and the people who worship there. There is absolutely no justification for the violence unfolding in the Middle East to spill over onto our streets."
