Sarah Teather helped raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust
Brent's local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has walked alongside devotees from the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple to help raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust and other charitable causes.
The Anthony Nolan Trust is a leukaemia charity. They keep a register of potential cell tissue donors, organise recruitment clinics, keep records of tissue-type and take care of volunteers who are actually asked to donate.
Sarah joined an estimated 3000 fundraisers as they set off from the Temple in Neasden.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, Sarah Teather, said:
"The Swaminarayan Temple is far more than a place of worship, and I warmly congratulate them on such excellent community and charitable work. It was amazing to see so many people giving up their Sunday morning for such an important cause.
"Leukaemia claims lives, and it is vital that there is a register of people willing to save someone else's life by donating their bone marrow. The Anthony Nolan Trust desperately needs more black and minority ethnic donors to come forward because your chance of finding a bone marrow match is helped by having a wide range of ethnic groups represented on the register.
"Anyone up to the age of 40 can go on the register, and I would urge people in Brent to sign up."
