Happy Birthday To Harlesden Methodist Church - Teather

Sarah Teather has praised Harlesden Methodist Church for their role in the community

Local Liberal Democrat Brent MP Sarah Teather has joined worshippers at Harlesden Methodist Church to celebrate their 140th anniversary.

The Church was founded in 1869, but heavily bombed in 1941 during World War II. It was then rebuilt on its present site in the 1950s, and fully refurbished in 1996.

In the 1960's Keith Johnson and David Haslam established the church as a strong campaigning organisation, focusing on "concern for the poor, the powerless and the troubled in our country and across the world."

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"I warmly congratulate Harlesden Methodist Church on their 140th birthday, and am delighted that I was able to join them in church to mark this special occasion. The church is so welcoming and a real joy to visit.

"One of the best things about the Harlesden Methodist Church is that they are so much more than just a place of worship. The church really gets involved with the local community and campaigns on issues that are absolutely vital to people in Brent.

"We can only win action on pressing local problems such as gun and knife crime, social justice and fair trade if all our community groups work together for change. I hope that many more organisations will follow the excellent example of Harlesden Methodist Church."
