Teather Demands Flood Action

Sarah Teather's local office in Willesden had to close because of flooding

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather has called on Thames Water to take urgent action against repeated floods on Willesden High Road.

Monday night's heavy showers caused flooding in buildings all along the street, including in Sarah's constituency office which couldn't reopen for two days. Store owners face a long time clearing up before things get back to normal.

This is the third time that flooding has caused Sarah's office to close, but so far Thames Water have failed to get a grip on the problem.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"How many times does this have to happen before Thames Water gets their act together? Every time there's a downpour, buildings flood and businesses suffer. The recession has made things hard enough for local shops, but Thames Water's neglect is making it even worse.

"Thanks to the fantastic efforts of local volunteers, our office was up and running again within a couple of days. But constituents couldn't come in while we cleaned up the mess, meaning we weren't able to help them. Our job is to assist constituents, not clean up because of Thames Water's inaction.

"Local businesses will be struggling because of the deluge, but Thames Water haven't even apologised. We are all sick and tired of getting flooded, so I am calling on them to take action and end flooding on the High Road."

If you are a resident of the Brent Central constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
