Sarah wants refunds for local people
Brent's local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today launched a petition calling on Transport for London (TfL) to refund local people for the Jubilee line fiasco.
TfL are planning to close the Jubilee line in full or in part every weekend between now and the end of the year, resulting in months of disruption to local residents, and devastation to local businesses who rely on passing trade.
TfL argue that these works will improve the service, but the project appears to have been chaotic with basic mistakes like laying 8 miles of the wrong type of cable.
Sarah has launched a petition, calling on TfL to refund and compensate local people for the inconvenience they are causing, and to provide more information about when closures are happening. Sarah is also arguing for the Metropolitan line to stop at Willesden Green and Neasden in order to reduce the disruption caused.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"As a local resident, I am utterly frustrated by these closures. The disruption to the tube is making it impossible for local residents to plan their weekend, and is causing devastation to small businesses that rely on passing trade.
"I am furious frankly that local residents are paying the price for tube bosses' incompetence. How on earth did they manage to lay nearly half the length of the Jubilee line with the wrong type of cable without anybody noticing?
"TfL and the Mayor need urgently to get control on this situation. Local people want a refund. We are not prepared to pay for a 7-day service when we are only getting 5-day week tubes.
"TfL could help minimise the hassle for local people if they allowed the Met line to stop at Willesden Green and Neasden, and at least provided better quality information about planned closures.
"I urge all local residents to sign my petition and get involved with the campaign."
