Local MP Sarah Teather lives in Willesden Green
Local Brent East Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has received her letter from the MPs' expenses inquiry - confirming that she has never claimed money for a second home or other personal living expenses.
Sir Thomas Legg has been reviewing each MP's expenses claims. Sarah has always been clear that she opposes the second home allowance for London MPs and therefore refused to claim the money for which she was eligible.
Sarah has also always opposed attempts to exempt MPs from Freedom of Information legislation and voted for reform of parliamentary allowances last year. Earlier this year Sarah tabled a parliamentary motion calling for the second home allowance to be scrapped for London MPs.
Brent's Labour MPs have received over £100,000 in second home allowances, despite representing constituencies easily within commuting distance of Westminster.
Local Brent East Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:
"I have never claimed for a second home. It would have been totally outrageous for me to do so, not to mention a gross betrayal of the trust of local people. I live in Willesden Green and travel to work by tube, just like my constituents.
"Time and time again I have voted for the reform of parliament, and even tabled a motion against London MPs' second homes long before the current scandal. I hope that all MPs have finally woken up to this outrage and will now join me in fighting for change."
