Local Liberal Democrat Brent East MP Sarah Teather has pledged to fight for a full public enquiry for Brent Cross after a "stop notice" was issued to Barnet Council.

The unpopular scheme, already waved through by the Mayor of London, could mean hundreds of extra cars on Edgware Road every day and would see a dump relocated to the border with Brent.

After a long campaign for the government to call in the scheme, led by a coalition of local residents, politicians and environmental groups, the Government Office for London has issued a "stop notice" to Barnet Council.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"This announcement is a step in the right direction and a real victory for the campaign.

"But it simply isn't enough for Labour to kick the issue into the long grass in the hope of killing off the campaign before the election. The Labour government have it in their power to stamp on this disastrous development once and for all.

"With politicians seeking the votes of Brent residents, people must make it clear that this is an election issue and they will be holding the Labour government to account for their actions at the ballot box.

"We need a call-in now."

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
