Sarah Teather is fighting for the people of Brent
Local Liberal Democrat Sarah Teather has joined Nick Clegg and Vince Cable in central London to launch the party's election manifesto.
At the heart of the party's plans are a fairer tax system, a fair start for children, a green and sustainable economy, and cleaning up the rotten political system.
In Brent, the Lib Dems' plans would mean a £700 tax cut for local people, leaving the average resident with an annual tax bill of £2,900, instead of £3605 under Labour. Brent schools would get a £16million cash boost, and local voters would get the right to kick out shamed Labour MPs without waiting for a general election.
Local Liberal Democrat candidate for Brent Central Sarah Teather said:
"After 13 long years many people in Brent are saying that Labour have given up on ordinary people. It is a scandal that a child born in Harlesden today is predicted to die 13 years before a child born just down the road in Kensington.
"The Liberal Democrats' plans would make a huge difference for people in Brent, lifting those on the lowest incomes out of tax altogether and getting extra money into local schools. Every child in Brent deserves the chance to succeed, whatever their parents' income.
"Labour have failed and everyone knows that the Conservatives can't win here. Only the Liberal Democrats are serious about making Brent a fairer place to live."
