Sarah Teather has worked with many older people's groups in Brent
Local Liberal Democrat Sarah Teather has debated older people's issues at an election hustings with Brent Elders Voice.
Under Labour, 2.5million pensioners are living beneath the poverty line. Liberal Democrats will restore the earnings link for pensions; stop unfair energy bills for older people; cut taxes, with up to £100 extra for all pensioners; and protect the Post Offices retired people so often depend on.
The third placed Conservative candidate failed to show up for the debate.
Liberal Democrat Brent Central candidate Sarah Teather said:
"I was delighted that Elders Voice arranged this event to debate the serious issues faced by older people in Brent. All too often older people don't get a fair deal from the Labour government.
"It is unfair that, as each year goes by, pensioners slip further behind. Liberal Democrats will immediately restore the link between pensions and earnings. This would make a huge difference to local pensioners.
"I led the fight against Labour's Post Office closures in our area and will continue to stand up for older people in Brent."
