Local MP Sarah Teather took part in a Black history event in Stonebridge
Local Brent Central Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has supported an event in Stonebridge aiming to introduce Black history to the local community.
Hosted by Josie Omiga and Lady Paulette, the event marked the first anniversary of the Stonebridge Hub and featured the acclaimed black historian Robin Walker, author of "When We Ruled". The organisers aimed to "empower people with the knowledge of our enriched black history".
The event was supported financially by small businesses from the community, and also raised funds for the Sickle Cell Disease Society.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent Central Sarah Teather said:
"This was a fantastic event, and I would like to congratulate all the organisers who pulled together such a great evening.
"Black history isn't just for black people but for everyone - in a rich and diverse area like Brent our community is shaped by the history of all the people who live here.
"While Black history often understandably starts and ends with slavery, it was fascinating to hear Robin Walker speak of many proud and important aspects of Black history which are spoken of less frequently but have still had a huge impact on the world we live in.
"I really hope the whole community will continue to support important projects such as this."
