BRENT RESIDENTS LEFT IN DARK ON DUMP – TEATHER DEMANDS ACTION

January 17, 2012 5:28 PM

Following revelations that the Brent Cross Cricklewood development is likely to shrink local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent Central Sarah Teather has today written to the Brent Cross Cricklewood developers, Barnet Council and Boris Johnson to demand that they make their plans for the Brent Cross Cricklewood development clear.

The current plans for the development include a large waste dump on the border with Brent which could see hundreds of extra lorries passing through residential areas. The development will also bring an estimated 29,000 extra cars per day onto the road, and have a dramatic impact on other local shopping centres.

The scheme has been opposed by residents across Brent who have raised concerns about the potential impact of the extra pollution caused by the dump upon residents' health and the environment. However, residents' concerns have been consistently ignored by both Barnet Council and the developers.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent Central Sarah Teather said:

"The developer has twisted and turned so many times that local people no longer trust what they say. If there are going to be major changes to the current plans it is vitally important that they are published and local residents are consulted."

"Boris and Barnet must to listen to the views of local people who have made it very clear that they do not want an industrial incinerator on the doorstep of local schools and that they do not want gigantic rubbish trucks on winding residential streets."

"If plans for this development are going back to the drawing board local people ought to have a say."
