Battle to save Pension Book

11.20.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 16th Sep 2003

Labour's plans to stop pensioners receiving their pension using the Pension Book have been condemned by Sarah Teather. The Government wants to force elderly people to receive their pension direct into a bank account or using the new Post Office Account Card.

Sarah said, "This plan is proving massively unpopular with local pensioners. This is a needless change and I support pensioners in their campaign to keep using their pension books."

Hundreds of pensioners have already signed a Lib Dem petition opposing the changes.
