Teather condemns Conservative support for Foundation Hospitals

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 20th Nov 2003

Sarah Teather MP has today condemned the Conservatives for their support of the Government's foundation hospitals.

The Brent East MP was speaking after Conservative peers dropped their opposition to the Government's plans in the House of Lords.

Local Liberal Democrat MP, Sarah Teather said:

"What we have seen here is that the Conservative party may have changed its leader but they have not changed their spots. This is the same old Conservatives with their policies of taking from the poor to pay for the rich.

"Foundation hospitals will increase NHS bureaucracy at the expense of patients. Hospitals competing with each other is no good for patients and no good for the NHS.

"The Liberal Democrats want to see more doctors and nurses not more Government red tape
