Sarah Teather is campaigning to Axe the Tax

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"The council tax is the most hated tax in Britain. It was brought in under the Conservatives and has been made worse under Labour. It is an unfair tax that hits vulnerable groups such as pensioners hardest. The Audit Commission has described council tax as 'fundamentally flawed'. It is surely time for this unfair tax to go.

"I believe that a local income tax based on a persons ability to pay offers a much fairer alternative to this hated tax."
