Council Must Take Greater Care Says Sarah11.04.24am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 15th Oct 2004
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today urged Brent Council to take greater care of residents personal information. A number of unshredded residents personal details were found in rubbish bins by Brent Council's Mahatma Gandhi House. The documents found by a member of the public contained details of residents bank accounts details and other personal information. Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said: "The Council has a duty of care when handling residents personal information and clearly in this case they have failed. I am deeply alarmed that such sensitive information should be so lightly treated by the Council. The Council must tighten up its procedures so that instances like this never occur again."
