David Cameron boosted Sarah's campaign for Brent by ruling the Tories out of the race

David Cameron has ruled the Conservatives out of the race in Brent Central, admitting that Brent's new parliamentary seat will be "a fight to the death" between local MP Sarah Teather and the Labour party.

Now that the Tory leader has given up on Brent Central, many Conservative supporters are expected to switch their backing to Sarah Teather. Sarah's campaign was also recently boosted by the Stonebridge by-election, which saw voters turn away from both Labour and the Conservatives in their hundreds.

People are concerned that Brent's Labour MP's always put their loyalty to the Government ahead of local people. They have backed Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's government on virtually every major issue, including health, education, and Iraq.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"Liberal Democrats in Brent are rightly proud of their record of campaigning to save local Post Offices, fair funding for Brent's schools and the fight for more police here in Brent.

"The Tories and Labour increasingly look like the same party. Only the Liberal Democrats will campaign for the real change that Brent needs."

On David Cameron's admission that Brent Central will be a "fight to the death" between Labour and the Lib Dems, Sarah Teather added:

"Everyone knows the Tories can't win in Brent Central, and now David Cameron has admitted it to the House of Commons.

"We could be up to two years away from a General Election, but the Conservatives have already ruled themselves out of the race. The next election here will be a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and Labour."
