Local Campaigner Simon Green Selected For Queen's Park7.40.00pm GMT Fri 15th Feb 2008
Local campaigner Simon Green has been chosen to contest the Queen's Park by-election for the Liberal Democrats on 13th March 2008. Simon has already been working hard for the people of Queen's Park, as part of popular Brent MP Sarah Teather 's constituency office team. Simon 's dedication to campaigning for the area was recently acknowledged by Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesperson Ed Fordham , who has asked Simon to head up his local office in Kilburn. This election, is set to be a close fight between the Lib Dems and Labour. The recent Dudden Hill and Stonebridge by-elections have shown the Conservatives cannot win in Brent. Commenting on his selection local campaigner Simon Green said: "It is a real privilege to have the opportunity to represent the people of Queen's Park. I spend a great deal of time working with local people both as Ed's Head of Office and when I worked closely with our MP Sarah Teather. "This is a great area with so much to be proud of, but we face some real challenges too. I hope to be able continue the strong record of the Liberal Democrats standing up for the people of Queen's Park on issues such as crime, Post Offices and the Queens Park tower." Local Brent East MP Sarah Teather said: "I'm delighted Simon will be standing for the Liberal Democrats. "He really knows the issues in Queen's Park and has a proven track record of getting things done for local people. I'm sure he'll be able to make even more of a difference as a local councillor." "Everyone knows the Conservatives can't win in Queen's Park. Those who want to take a stand against the unpopular policies of Gordon Brown and the Labour Government should back Simon and the Liberal Democrats."
